Guorong (Rudy) Wu
Principal Investigator
Guorong Wu (PI) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is the recipient of NIH Career Development Award. His research interests are medical image analysis, machine learning, scientific data visualization, and computer assisted diagnosis. He is interested in the data-driven research to explore neuroscience problems and systematic solution to improve the healthcare in clinic practice. Currently, he leads several NIH and NSF funded research projects include (1) early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease by longitudinal image analysis, (2) longitudinal analysis of the dynamic network disruptions in Alzheimer’s disease, (3) biomarkers across neurodisorders, (4) 3D nuclear segmentation for light sheet microscopy images of mouse brain, and (5) spontaneous pain assessment using deep learning technology.
Meet the Team
Research Assistant Professor
Dr. Vlasova began her human neuroimaging career in 2010 at the Functional MRI Group of the Federal Center for Medicine and Rehabilitation in Moscow, where she developed task-based fMRI paradigms and processed functional imaging data to support surgical planning for epilepsy and brain tumor patients. In 2017, she continued her research as a postdoctoral scholar at UCLA, focusing on the neurobiological mechanisms of geriatric depression and resilience. She has extensive expertise in both human and non-human primate neuroimaging, spanning structural MRI, diffusion MRI, and functional MRI.
Post-Doc Research Associate
Dr. Dan is a Post-Doc research associate in ACM lab. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from South China University of Technology, China, in 2023. Her research interests include medical image analysis, computational neuroscience, and geometric deep learning. Her current research project is developing cutting-edge machine learning methods for complex biomedical data.

Jiaqi is a PhD student from the Department of Computer Science at UNC-Chapel Hill. She is interested in machine learning for functional neuroimages.

Ziquan is a PhD student in Department of Computer Science at UNC. His research interests include graph neural networks and geometric deep learning.

Zhixuan is a PhD student from the Department of Computer Science. He is currently working on functional dynamics. His research interests are in image processing and machine learning techniques relative to applications in neuroscience and healthcare.

Yana Xu
Research Assistant
Yana is a research assistant in Biostatistics at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Her interests focus on integrating biostatistics and machine learning to develop data-driven methods for analyzing large-scale health data and supporting clinical research.
Yunxi Kong
Research Assistant
Yunxi Kong is a graduate student in Economics and Computation at Duke University. His interests include human-AI interaction, multi-agent systems, interactive systems, and computational approaches to learning and communication. His training combines computational modeling, data analysis, and system design. He is especially interested in building AI-enhanced tools that help people understand complex information, including educational, scientific, and biomedical data, through visualization, interaction, and adaptive feedback. Outside of academic work, he enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time outdoors.

Junhong is a master's student and is interested in machine learning and neuroimaging, especially applying AI techniques to understand the human brain and solve real-world healthcare problems.
Shaoqi Wang

Shaoqi is a Master’s student from the Department of Computer Science at UNC-Chapel Hill. His research interests include EHR-based disease prediction and healthcare multi-agent AI systems.
Ye Mon Thant
Graduate Student
Ye Mon is a graduate student majoring in Computer Science. His research interests include agentic AI, multi-agent systems, and large-scale systems. At the ACMLab, he works on CyberNeuro, with a focus on developing intelligent AI agents and improving how AI agents interact with complex scientific data and procedures.
Taeyoon Jay Kim

Taeyoon is a master's student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research interests lie in machine learning and artificial intelligence, particularly in applying AI methods to biomedical data and healthcare problems. He is also interested in performance modeling and representation learning for intelligent systems.
Zhitan He

Zhitan is an MS student in Biostatistics at UNC Chapel Hill. His research interests include statistical modeling, neuroimaging, and causal inference, with applications in neuroscience and biomedical sciences.

Hyuna was a visiting student at ACMLab in 2024 and she is a Phd student from POSTECH. Her research interests span machine learning on graphs, computer vision, and statistics. Specifically, she's interested in solving problems within the medical domain related to medical imaging and brain connectivity using machine learning methodologies.
Dr. Kim was a visiting scholar at ACMLab from 2023 to 2024. He is an Associate Professor in Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence (GSAI) / Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) / Medical Science and Engineering (MED) at POSTECH. His research is focused on interdisciplinary topics in Machine Learning, Computer Vision and Medical Imaging.

Zhentao is a PhD student from Department of Biostatistics at UNC-Chapel Hil. He is working on multi-variate statistical model for high-dimension biomedical data, with the focus on Alzheimer's disease.
Junbo Ma
Junbo Ma was a Post-Doc research associate in ACM lab. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Massey University, New Zealand, in 2019. He was working on 3D nucleus instance segmentation on tissue clearing light-sheet microscopy images.
Dehuv Patel
Dehuv joined ACM lab in 2019. He was studying Riemannian manifold theory for functional dynamics.
Elodie Piot
Elodie is the research intern from CPE Lyon, France. She was developing a new data processing pipeline in Slicer which combines the DTI image processing, fiber tracking, and network construction for both cortical and sub-cortical regions.

Dr. Liu joined ACM lab in 2018 as a visituing scholar. She first worked in BRIC then moved to the Department of Psychiatry with Dr. Wu in August, 2018. She worked on functional brain network analysis when she was visiting ACM lab.

Dr. Tang was a visiting schloar at ACM lab from 2015 to 2016. He is interested in sparse optimization technique.
Qian Wang
Dr. Wang was a visiting schloar at ACM lab from 2017 to 2018. She worked with Dr. Wu in developing nuclei segmentation method for light-sheet microscopy images using deep learning technique.
Andrew Zhen
Andrew worked with Dr. Wu on graph neural networks from 2020 summer to 2021 when he was a high school senior student. He is now the undergraduate student at Wharton school of the University of Pennsylvania.

Lang is a phd student in the Department of Biostatistics at UNC-CH. He worked with Dr. Wu in developing statistical model for cognitive reserve.

Camille is currently the phd student in Biostatistics Department at UNC-CH. She worked on GWAS, gene expression data analysis when she was in ACM lab from 2019 to 2021.

Di was a phd student in Biostatistics Department at UNC-CH. She worked with Dr. Wu in identifying regional resilience effect of amyloid and tau biomarker from 2020 to 2021.

Dr. Wang was a visiting scholar in ACM lab from 2014 to 2015. She was working on graph-based machine learning techniques for disease diagnosis.

Dr. Dong was a postdoc at ACM lab from 2015 to 2018. He is interested in hypergraph techniques with the application in multi-atlas segmentation.

Amr Moussa was a Research Assistant in ACM lab from 2016 to 2018. Amr was a software developer that specializes in 3D rendering techniques and hardware acceleration.

Dr. Yang was a visiting scholar in ACM lab from 2018 to 2020. He worked on hub identification methods when he was in UNC.
Benjamin Leinwand was a Statistics phd student in UNC Chapel Hill’s Department of Statistics and Operations Research. He was co-supervised by Drs. Vladas Pipiras and Guorong Wu.

Yueting was a master student in Biostatistics Department at UNC-CH. She worked with Dr. Wu on longitudinal mix-effect model for Alzheimer's in 2018.

Yajing was a phd student in Biostatistics Department at UNC-CH. In ACM lab, she worked on polygenetic risk score for Alzheimer's disease.
